Most of my work follows two themes...
One is landscape photography focusing on the places that are special to me. I love Northern Michigan... especially the Leelanau peninsula in Northwest Lower Michigan, the areas around Leland, Glen Arbor, Charlevoix, Petoskey and much of the Upper Peninsula.
I photograph old farms, lighthouses, vineyards, peaceful lake scenes, beaches, sunsets... anything that catches my eye. I love to "catch the gorgeous light of the evening so that we can enjoy God's beautiful handiwork another time. This aspect of my work seems to resonate with people who share my love of these special places.
Another favorite theme is close-up (macro) photography. I love the details I find at the center of a flower, or looking at an insect through my lens, covered with dew and waiting for the morning sun to warm it. I love trying to capture the fascinating things I see looking at God's world at high magnification... placing myself in the perspective I would have if I were a tiny creature instead of who I am. So you'll find in my work many examples of this fascination with the "micro" world that few of us take the opportunity to explore.
In the last four years I have found a new love of photography - children - namely my grandsons and their friends. In closely studying my grandsons (I always have a camera close at hand when I am with them) I have discovered they are usually doing something worth photographing. And they are so darned cute no matter what they are doing.
I continue to learn new techniques of photography and have switched from film to digital in the last two years. With the switch to digital I have found that I am enjoying photography more as I can see what I am doing as I go along. It's a new age in photography and it is exciting.
I live with my husband Ken and our cat, Fred, on the Boardman River south of Traverse City.
